For a while, he was an upbeat, energetic student with a proficiency for sobriety. The first year of university went swimmingly but as the second year unfolds he finds out just how wrong things were.
He deleted all of his posts, all of the wonderful comments, every element of the community that he spend a year creating and is loving how dramatic this all is. Things needed to change. He needed a fresh start. For the first time in a long time, he was going to begin taking back everything and, to use the phrase he despises so much, would find himself in the process.
This was his reputation.
I don’t like alcohol and did not drink much when I was in Uni neither. Now I only drink half a cup when my friends order some (just want to pay some respect to them and participate in their “joy”). To be honest, I never enjoy alcohol, I rather eat good food and dessert. 😀 By the way, thank you very much for following me. Hope you will enjoy my blog. Cheers.

I discovered your blog recently and I must say, I foolishly gave in my first semester of college to the trend of drinking – very foolish. However, I now lead a non-drinking life alongside my kids and husband. He’s a Marine veteran and has been sober for 8 years! It’s a challenge but it’s definitely possible. If you can, I’d like you to check out my blog and give me some feedback anytime you get a chance. I started my blog a couple months ago, and with health issues, I think at times my blog suffers a bit because of it. Many thanks and best of luck on your exams!

Hello! I’ve just discovered your blog so I’m going to take you up on the opportunity to check my blog out. It is going through a bit of a makeover at the moment so I want some feedback on how the current changes are being received. Thanks!

Of course! I’ll head over there now! 🙂

I love it! My only suggestion would maybe to consider cropping the featured images of your posts so that they are all the same width. That way, all of your posts will be nicely aligned (as they mostly are but there are a few that look slightly out of place!) It will just make the whole thing even more brilliant! 🙂

You could also tag and categorize your posts to make them easier to find!:)

Completely had to google that to find out what tags and categories even are! I’m going to have a play around. Thank you nonalcoholicstudent!

Much respect for you. I didn’t drink alcohol at all while I was in college. Now I drink socially – once in a blue moon. Like today I had a cocktail, oddly enough. But rarely do I ever consume alcohol. I’m all for water and tea. Always nice to know I’m not the only nondrinker out there.

Thank you so much for the support! And all you have to do is look at the comment section of some of my blog posts to realise that you aren’t the only one 🙂

I was a complete binge drinker from my early teens right through to my 20’s and then travelling and taking long hard look at how I was treating my body and why lead me to slowly cut it right down. I find it way easier not to drink here in Chile with my circus comunity and training so much now. Going back to the UK is always the big challenge where I can easily slip into old habits!

I love the idea of blogging about university life as a nondrinker and about the two campus communities. Glad we’ve connected!

Belated questions: I see you’ve posted a lot to your future published self. What type of work are you hoping to publish? And what are you studying at university?

And here are your belated answers! I’m currently writing a novel – the only thing I’ve said so far is that I’d describe it as a domestic fairy tale – and I’m currently studying English Literature 😊

Thank you so much for the official first like on my WordPress Blog, SermonWorks. The title, nonalcoholicstudent, of your Blog brings to mind a line from the 1969 movie, “True Grit”. In a conversation with Rooster Cogburn, played by John Wayne; Mattie Ross, played by Kim Darby, comments, “I would not put a thief in my mouth to steal my brains.” I commend you on your avoidance of alcohol. You are off to a good start in life. God bless you.

I don’t like alcohol either, and I always order orange juice.

See, it just goes to show that the big student scene of drinking (that universities definitely promote) isn’t actually as popular as it may seem! Thank you for the comment and feel free to use my community tab to promote your own posts and follow if you enjoy! 🙂

I like that you say “So here is a university student of the non-alcoholic variety – hello!” It is definitely interesting because I did wonder why it is “nonalcoholicstudent.” This name can be implied to many things. It definitely made me question and got me intrigue 🙂

Hahahaha yes I see what you mean! I got the name from non-alcoholic beverages. Like beer for example, you always assume it contains alcohol unless it specifically says it’s a non-alcoholic beer. I thought it’s kind of the same with students: they contain alcohol unless specified otherwise!! 🙂

I commend your choice and look forward to reading about your experiences. Wishing you best with studies and figuring out life. I feel inept but since getting out of school I also feel that as I come to every situation, I have to learn from it and face it. Keep growing

Thank you for such kind words! Personally, I don’t think people get less inept as they grow older; they just get better at hiding it haha! Thanks again for the support 🙂

True. Especially if we stick to our comfort zones, we get away with it but we stop growing

Exactly!! One of the things I strive for is, once in a while, to do something that terrifies me. I mean, moving to university kind of takes the cake with that one but you’re exactly right. It’s when we’ve DONE the things that are miles outside our comfort zones that we can truly settle into who we are and feel proud as a result!

That’s great. You should definitely explore. University phase is also about self learning and figuring out ambitions for your future.
